Ongoing practice led research based work using everyday objects as starting points. Investigating the use of display, embellishment and adjacencies to create meaning, absurdity and intrigue. Discarded Wedgwood vases become a focus, looking at ways to animate these ‘forgotten’ ‘heirlooms’. These are often transformed and co-joined or simply mended with elaborate dressings.

Darren is very sensitive

An ongoing body of work that pulls in lots of anxiety and upset, possibly a way to grieve from various rejections, faltering communications, ghostings and the need to deal with this using objects, sorting and presenting them. Some of the items feel unwanted (personalised handkerchiefs found on eBay) and giving them some adoration. The shimmer wall feels empowering, it took a while to design and produce and the patience needed presented a way to manifest the anger…

Current Practice

I have always been fascinated with the many ways we flavour and embellish our food. I eat to live and rarely look that closely at my diet. I try to avoid ultra-processed foods but i'ts hard in the society that we live in. Food smells and taste leach into the work, as artists we often work with the materials that we have at close range…

Perhaps this is an attempt to revivify bland objects?
